Trump issues ultimatum over hostages, Hamas says ready to negotiate • FRANCE 24 English

The US has put forward a fresh ceasefire deal to Israel and Hamas as President Trump continues his efforts to put an end to the almost twoyear-old conflict. Now, in a break with previous deals, Axios is reporting that the deal would see Hamas immediately release all 48 captives still in their charge, around 20 of whom are thought to still be alive. Previously, Hamas has been low to release all of their hostages for fear of losing leverage over the Israelis. But this new deal will see them be exchanged for up to 3,000 Palestinian prisoners held by Israel. Now, once a ceasefire is declared, negotiations will begin to bridge the gaps that still exist between the two sides, including Israel’s demand for Hamas to disarm themselves and Hamas’s demand for the Israelis to withdraw from the Gaza Strip. The ceasefire will continue as long as these negotiations are ongoing with President Trump personally overseeing a deal to end the war once and for all. Now, Donald Trump claims that Israel has already agreed to to this deal and in a truth social post told Hamas that this will be his last warning. He it’s believed that it’s been relayed to Hamas that failure to accept this proposal would result in a large-scale Israeli operation within Gaza. Now, Hamas has responded saying it welcomes quote any initiative that contributes to the efforts to halt the aggression against our people. The group says it’s ready to discuss the release of all prisoners, but that it also wants the formation of a committee of independent Palestinians who would manage the Gaza Strip.
