  1. Samesies! (but I never leave Wales as I can’t afford to.)

  2. We are everywhere. My daughter was in a small town in New Zealand, met somebody I was in school with!

  3. That is because the Welsh are awesome. At least 3 times while on trips I have gotten help from random stranger. 3 times they were Welsh.

If you are looking around kinda lost and worried, the Welsh have an innate spirit to help.

  4. we’re insidious. can’t go anywhere without bumping into someone i know.

  5. Hilarious, my parents were visiting Malawi (where my dad was born) a few years ago and saw some people from home at a bar on the banks of lake Malawi. So random!

  6. I’m Australian, and my mum is Welsh – we call it her Welsh Radar. She had this uncanny ability to find Welsh people anywhere we go.

We were in a pub in the remote outback, 12 hours from anything even resembling a city. I leave Mum for ten minutes and when I get back she’s chatting to a pair of Welsh backpackers.

  7. When we first moved to Brittany, first my Mum, then me and my family, to a small rural village, we met a wonderful, kind older couple from Neath, Colin and Cath. Sadly, they’re both no longer with us.

I grew up near Bridgend, but my Mum is from North Cornelly, and we both went to the same school in Kenfig Hill, so Neath isn’t that far away.

They became as close as family, like substitute grandparents, especially to my oldest daughter.

They were so caring and welcoming and would do anything to help anyone.

Their door was always open, the kettle on, with the offer of a drink and a biscuit.

When I left my abusive ex-husband, with almost nothing, Col showed up to help me move, and they gave me their old sofa.

We still miss you very much, Col and Cath <3

  8. Bumped into someone from my hometown in a park in Kyoto, Japan.
