In his first game as a starter for the Denmark national team, Victor Froholdt confirmed the positive signs he has shown this season at FC Porto. With remarkable dynamism “tilting” the field towards the Greek area, the midfielder was one of the best in a completely fair 3-0 victory that the Nordics managed to pull off in Piraeus.

Of the five representatives of the Portuguese championship on the field, Froholdt was the most impressive, although Hjulmand (Sporting) was the usual pendulum in the midfield of Denmark. Greece’s performance was, on the whole, disappointing, with the defeat also affecting Sporting’s Vaggianidis (starter) and Ioannidis (used substitute), as well as Benfica’s Pavlidis, also in the starting eleven. The latter, despite the difficulties, was one of the most active for the Hellenics.

The first goal came from Damsgaard, still in the first half (32′), in an arched shot after a Greek defender lost the ball trying to play out and failed the feint (badly). Before that (29′), Froholdt had almost opened the scoring with a cross shot just wide, and at 38′ he tried again in the area with an acrobatic feint between two defenders that almost resulted in a goal. Christensen made it 2-0 at 62′ in an individual play and, at 81′, Hojlund closed the accounts in an easy rebound, after Patrick Dorgu’s shot hit the post.
