British folk musician Dolly Mavies has spoken out after she and her band walked out of their own show after hearing Vice President JD Vance might be in attendance.

Mavies, whose real name is Molly Davies, spoke to the BBC about the “overwhelming sense of support” she has received after the decision to walk out of her Aug. 11 show.

“I think for a lot of American people there’s a lot of uncertainty, and a lot of people are scared, and it was amazing to feel like they’d been heard,” she told the BBC.

Mavies initially announced the reason why she and her band decided to leave the show in a now viral TikTok on Aug. 13.

“We were booked for a gig and turned up not knowing it was for him [Vance] and then decided we were going to leave because it’s not something we wanted to do,” she explained in the video.

Mavies told the BBC that the exposure following the TikTok has led to “wonderful comments and support from people all across the world.”

Not all of the comments were positive, however. She told the BBC that some people were calling the situation a PR stunt.

“We definitely didn’t do that at all,” she says. “If we were that clever we would have done something before now.”

Vance and his family vacationed in the United Kingdom in August, staying in the Cotswolds, an elite region of England where celebrities such as Victoria and David Beckham have been known to frequent.

Jeremy Clarkson, host of “Top Gear” and “The Grand Tour” who has lived in the Cotswolds for 30 years, also commented on Vance’s presence in the area.

“The JD Vance no fly zone,” he wrote in a post on Instagram. “We are the pin. So on the downside, no drone shots today. On the upside, no annoying light aircraft.”
