The ICE Raid on the Georgia Hyundai Battery Plant Makes No Sense. Trump says he wants foreign investment in manufacturing. This is an odd way of showing it. The surprise raid antagonized South Korea, one of America’s closest allies and a country that had signed a $350 billion trade pact with the US.

  1. Promoting the US domestic battery industry and establishing a domestic supply chain for raw materials was a key pillar of Biden’s “made in America” plan for reducing US dependence on China. Is that why Trump is attacking it? Or is this just another lame attempt to distract attention away from the Epstein files?

Everything Trump is doing is making the US ***more*** dependent on China, despite his rhetoric.

  2. When actions clearly go against spoken words, the actions speak louder. This is something many kids of addicted parents learn very quickly.

I believe the person in question here is addicted to power and will say whatever helps him achieve that objective.

We should all be watching the actions more closely and connecting the dots for ourselves to make better energy investment decisions.

  3. Hyundai and the South Koreans are just saving face. Yes, Trump does want foreign investment, but the tourist visas many otained do not allow them to work. The South Koreans are embarrassed, but they knew better. Another huge corporation disregarding the rules when convenient. Why am i not surprised?

  4. Isn’t this the most Republican plan ever?

Trump wants them to pay for their factory but our failing education system and prisoners will provide the labor.

Once they get rid of OSHA, DOE and child labor laws then the plan is complete. Almost-Slave labor.

Btw, it’s all part of Project 2025 (which has now reached 47%).

  5. Trump says lots of shit. Most of it is lies, little of it makes logical sense.

The people who work for Trump want to terrorize anyone who isn’t a straight white native born American. That’s why they do raids like this.

Trump may or may not be aware of these actions beforehand. Either way he’ll make up some bullshit excuse afterwards or claim he didn’t know anything.

  6. Trump is all about insulting allies and helping enemies

  7. You do understand that Trump is deliberately trying to sink the USA, right?

  8. South Korea welcome to the club. Now if you want to invest in a battery plant Canada has lots of nickel, lithium and highly educated populace.

  9. Attack allies. Subvert the law and constitution. Secret police force. Control businesses and higher education institutions. Destroy established economy. He’s a wrecking crew to himself.

  10. Hyundai received $ 2 billion in subsidies for this facility and was subsequently caught breaking the law. Would seem they owe us an apology. Those who employ illegal immigrants need to be punished, and this shows it isn’t just the small, local companies.

  11. It makes sense if you’re a Mafia Regime that views every business as a target for a shakedown, especially if they aren’t white-owned.

  12. That’s not crazy when you think of Trump being a Russian asset. Every move, he makes weakens America and drives allies away and unites adversaries.

  13. I was an EV factory tho.

We don’t want *that* kind of manufacturing.

  14. Why does the Energy bit have a post that is strictly political?

  15. He doesn’t want foreign investment in what we already have (ie US cars).

Like China he aims to shut out most foreign businesses.

  16. Putin wanted the raid. Part of Russian strategy to alienate America.

  17. I reckon that Hyundai didn’t buy enough Trump meme coins.

IMHO much of Trumps behaviour only makes sense if you see it as an attempt to shake down businesses for bribes

  18. It was because a super -MAGA woman is running for office in that district, and she called it in as part of an effort to curry favor with MAGA supporters and the administration.

  19. A significant number of the South Koreans there were either incorrectly detained or detained and deported because ICE claimed that their legitimate visas didn’t cover the work they were doing.

Three countries make VRAM for AI, South Korea and the US, and the majority is made in South Korea in South Korean fabs. We need to maintain cordial relations with South Korea.

At the rate they are going, more illegals will have been deported during the Obama administration than both terms of Trump’s administration. They are running out of bad people to deport and now they are going to extreme measures to make the numbers for politics instead of economic and foreign policy.

Not a good move to piss off one of your remaining best friends.

  20. If Georgia’s governor had a spine he would have spoken out strongly against this unprecedented raid against a private business in his state. Hyundai did everything right. It built a massive new factory in the US, hired thousands of American workers, paid US taxes and is helping build a domestic battery industry to compete with China. If there were some visa issues those should have been brought to its attention in a meeting first.

This raid by Trump’s private army was just a theatrical show of cowardly dictator energy and a distraction from his pedophilia problems.

  21. Worse than incompetence. Trump treats other countries like he treats his contractors: like shit.
