Would it not be ideal to use a skeleton key under barrel shotgun, used by at least one soldier per squad? Instead of carrying an extra whole shotgun? This one is makeshift but producing them wouldn’t be to expensive.

  1. My guess would be because they want to be able to fire it more than once

  2. No, the extra barrel weight sucks, especially when you rarely needs it.

And a separate shotgun is much easier to handle

  3. Not really, makes your gun heavier, throws off the balance, and would only really be useful on the rare occasion you need to knock out hinges or a deadbolt on a door. Better to have a full size shotgun that can also be used for last ditch emergency drone defense.

  4. They probably dont want to carry that shit around. Try hit a flying target with that thing… Besides that, the French foreign legion train skeet shooting with rifles (towards ocean background) , saw it way before the drones. Copied trying that in the 90ies with G3s, and its actual possible. Se how many that actually hits drones with rifles in Ukraine. With shotguns they are WAY too close for comfort.

  5. Dont masterkey (and super shorties iirc) hold like, 2 in the tube and 1 in the chamber?

Maybe if they were updated to reliably fire birdshot mini shells and those were also a credible threat to drones…

Otherwise, they may not even handle their original intended use in breeching.  I mean, what happens if you need to do the hinges but mess up and need a 4th shot?

In today’s battlefield it seems as important to have a shotgunner as it is to have a designated marksman, or fire teams.
