Meet my Moka. The loveliest, friendliest purring machine. She is 3,5 years old and she has been with us for 11 months since the time we adopted her from a shelter. She is so affectionate and loves humans, so playful and cuddly. But… we have one male resident cat and another adopted girl. And they dont’t get along. No matter how we tried, Moka keeps attacking the other girl. The boy and Moka somehow tolerate each other a little better but with daily fuss and some fights. Both boy and girl aren’t showing up in the house anymore and are staying in the garden shed. Well, the boy comes in to eat quickly and leaves why the other girl won’t dare coming in and Moka is chasing her further and further away. Our boy and the other girl are getting along very well.

It is a devastating decision for me and my partner to return her to the shelter in search of a new home, as we both got so attached to her. We hoped that since two girls were adopted from the same shelter they would be fine. But they don’t. It’s so wrong. This is constant stress for all three of them. We tried many things to make them live together. But it is not getting better. We need to care the best of all three cats and we see the only way further is to find a new home for baby Moka where she’d be the only queen, not scared of other cats and always defending her territory.

We made an appointment with the shelter to bring her back but I dread the day and can’t think how we’ll be abandoning her there. I can’t stop crying. She’s just sleeping next to me not knowing it…

We’re in Belgium. it’s a long shot but maybe there is someone who is looking for a furry friend and could save Moka from getting back to the shelter? I so hope she finds a good home!

  1. What exactly have you tried? I know homing cats into a home with resident cats can be a hell, I’ve seen some people being busy with it for 11months but it worked out in the end. If you apply Jackson Galaxy tips and tricks, more often than not should work. Otherwise there are reddit subs on here who can help you out. like r/CatTraining

  2. You can’t exchange pets like this in Belgium. Sadly Moka will need to go to the shelter and it needs to be done officially.

  3. What a cute void kitty! Is she neutered and all up to date with vax? Is she an indoor cat only?

  4. If I was living in a house (not renting an ap) I would have taken her. My wife cannot wait to move to a house to get a cat day 1.

Hope she gets the he she deserves 🙂

  5. Even then, in your original contract with the shelter you probably already agreed to return your cat to them in case you had to let her go. Do not try to pass her on on your own. It happens, it’s not your fault, just return her. The shelter will take good care of her and find her a new home, without other cats.
