  1. You should also check out Stephen Graham reciting ‘Suicide in the Trenches’ by Siegfried Sassoon. That poem has haunted me since we did it at school.

  2. Written by a Welshman (Dylan Thomas) and recited by a Welshman

  3. I very much enjoy Joanna Lumley reading, well, anything, but [particularly this video](https://youtu.be/rbgP6LBVBk4) of her reciting John Masefield’s “Cargoes”, Walter de la Mare’s “The Listeners”, and “To Autumn” by Keats.

Brian Cox has also done [an excellent reading of “The Lady of Shalott”](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcYyAQovjyY). He really brings what is quite a long poem to life.

Edit: oh, and Maya Angelou [reading her own “And Still I Rise”](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JqOqo50LSZ0) is always captivating.

  4. “don’t let me leave, Murph!” “No No No!”

  5. Dylan Thomas died after drinking ‘18 whiskeys’ (probably less but he claimed it was 18), he was clearly not in a good way so his friends called for a doctor who gave him 3 doses of morphine…which made him slip into a coma. He then died

When shipping him back from America to Wales, his wife found a group of sailors us in his coffin as a card table and drinking heavily, she thought Dylan would probably quite like that and so left them alone

  6. Saying you’re not a fan of poetry is like saying you’re not a fan of food.

You just haven’t found what you like… until now, clearly

  7. My goodness so much talent, he could read the phone book and every hair on my body would stand on end.

  8. That’s because it’s Michael Sheen. That man could read the safety blurb off a bottle of shampoo and make it sound like high art.

  9. Here’s another of his performances, his delivery is just magical https://youtu.be/XAo5w91G53A?si=j7sHbObLZhw46XwN

  10. He’s done an amazing job on some audiobooks. Some narrators have my mind wandering but I’m hanging on every syllable he reads.

  11. That was weird, even before the video started I had absolute certainty what it’d be. And I know I’ve not seen it before. Pretty damn good though.
