Cost of living crisis forces UK cancer patients to cut back on food and heating

  1. I have cancer and feel the cold really bad these days like anything under 20⁰C and I’m shivering. I’m lucky in that my flat is warm and because I’m still working I can afford to heat and eat.

It must be awful for other cancer patients who aren’t as fortunate as me. If I couldn’t work I’d be completely fucked.

  2. Yup. Lots of people with severe disabilities and health conditions are being forced to avoid food and heating.

We haven’t been able to afford heating since April started. I can’t move much, so it’s been incredibly painful many days. I’m already on strong painkillers as part of my illnesses. And movement is vital to trying to reduce the progression of my pain and mobility. But it’s too cold to move.

Also means hot baths are too expensive to take frequently.

It’s affecting people who don’t understand why they are cold and hungry too.

There are so many awful situations behind closed doors. And many of them could be improved by the government caring.

I read an article the other day that said a huge portion of cancer is being found after someone is taken to A&E now. It should be GPs who discover most cancers, but many have not opened up since 2020. So those with lingering health issues, disability and those with symptoms they don’t feel are “serious symptoms” are being neglected.
