1. I think they did survive. Hamas typically refrains from commenting immediately when one of its members is killed, only later acknowledging the death

2. I’m sure part of this attack was to signal Hamas leadership they aren’t going to be safe anywhere. Part of the issue with fighting Hamas has always been the fact that their leaders have all taken refuge in countries like Qatar.
