  2. Nothing says patriot for Brazil than waving the flag of a country with… lets call it complicated history with the entire South America.

  3. Well, politically it is about newer a good idea to use a foreign nation flag as a symbol for political movement. Especially in Brazilian. then you sort of automatically playing against national pride, no matter what.

  6. I think this highlights the growing “nationalist international” (oxymoron I know.) I don’t think Trump really cares beyond how it helps his own position in Ego, but it’s very clear that some people in his administration and “bubble” are very committed to helping the cause of conservatism worldwide. The Trump administration seems to have close ties to Yoon (who attempted the coup in South Korea) and his party, they also, obviously are close with Bolsonaro. The Trump admin is also very committed to Netanyahu. Being pro Israel is the norm for the president but they threatened to cut off aid if Israel put Netanyahu on trail for corruption. I think it’s pretty clear that a lot of Trump advisors have an affinity for Netanyahu in particular and see him as a kindred spirit ideologically, admiring how he has undermined Israeli democracy. I think that US foreign policy is going to be very bi polar in the future, taking huge swings depending on who is in charge. I mean Biden had the CIA support Lula in his transition so that Bolsonaro wouldn’t take power (not because he particularly likes Lula he just thought he was supporting democracy and after what Trump tried on him didn’t want to see a conservative undermine the electoral process and take power, fearing it would embolden similar forces here who had already tried) but Trump would love nothing more than for Bolsonaro to come back.
