  1. ROME, MAY 3 – Italy is set to keep backing sanctions against Russia following its invasion of Ukraine but it is also ready to work to find a diplomatic solution to the conflict, Premier Mario Draghi told the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Tuesday.
Draghi also reiterated that he was in favour of Ukraine being allowed to join the EU.
“The war in Ukraine has shown the profound vulnerability of many of our countries with respect to Moscow,” Draghi said.
“Italy is one of the most exposed member States,” he added, referring to Italy’s reliance of Russian gas.
“Energy reliance like this is imprudent from the economic point of view and dangerous from the geopolitical point of view.
“Italy intends to take all the necessary decisions to defend its security and Europe’s.
“We have supported the sanctions that the EU has decided to impose on Russia, including those in the energy sector.
“We will continue to do so with the same conviction in the future”. He said the war in Ukraine presented the EU with “one of the most serious crises in its history” stressing that it was a “humanitarian, security, energy and economic crisis”.
“As a founder country of the European Union, Italy believes profoundly in peace and is ready to work on the front line to achieve a diplomatic solution,” he said.
Draghi said he did not see the admission of countries that wanted to join the EU as a “threat to the European project” but, on the contrary, as “part of its realization”.
“Italy supports the immediate opening of adhesion negotiations with Albania and North Macedonia… we want to give new thrust to the negotiations with Serbia and Montenegro, and guarantee maximum attention to the legitimate aspiratins of Bosnia Herzegovina and Kosovo.
“We are in favour of the entry of all these counties and we want Ukraine in the EU”. (ANSA).

  2. Ok, at least they are clear on their position.

Now there is another problem: an internal one

Some citizens are die-hard Putin supporters, spewing propaganda nonsense on social media and are blaming NATO for this mess, some want Italy to stop sending ammos and weapons to Ukraine saying they must surrender.

Talk shows host guests with questionable morals like this “professor” called Orsini who openly said he would love living in a dictatorship and that all of this is Ukraine’s fault, or the fact that another talk show invited Lavrov Putin’s dog to spread more insane propaganda and lies.

  3. Few people understand how much Draghi has done for Europe and Italy. He is one of the most important politicians/bankers of the last decades and he goes under the radar when it comes to the public eyes.

He is really someone to watch. Unfathomably smart.
