  1. British fighter jets could be called upon to shoot down Russian drones if Moscow repeated its [incursion](https://inews.co.uk/news/world/polish-and-nato-jets-scrambled-after-reports-of-russian-drone-strikes-3909027?ico=in-line_link) into Nato airspace, MPs have been told.

RAF Typhoons form part of a rotation with other Nato allies [to protect Polish airspace](https://inews.co.uk/news/russian-drones-shot-down-poland-europe-open-conflict-3909352?srsltid=AfmBOood4kBLxpnZGei1Uk-jNWX1wPct5IupeuMQRzTEhtm8-YhW9eqI&ico=in-line_link) from any violation during the Ukraine conflict.

They finished their last rotation just six weeks ago – but MoD officials suggested they could return to Poland under plans to bolster Poland’s defence after Nato jets shot down Russian drones in Polish airspace overnight on Tuesday.

Shadow Defence Secretary James Cartlidge told the Commons it was “sobering” to think that, had the incident happened a few weeks ago, it would have involved British jets in engaging with Russia’s military.

And defence minister Alistair Carns said the UK was already ramping up the British defence industry to deal with a potential “existential crisis”.

Carns added: “For 24 years in the military I have never seen it so fractious or fragile as it is particularly today.

“And I think it is on all of us to make sure the population understands the risk in the geopolitical environment that surrounds us, and gives us our standard of living that we have here in the UK.”

Tuesday night’s incursion by Moscow into Polish airspace triggered a joint response from Nato countries, involving Dutch F35s shooting down the drones, Italian aircraft involved in refuelling and German support on the ground.

During an urgent question in the Commons, Cartlidge said: “We understand that Dutch F35s were directly involved in supporting the Polish military response, and that fighters from other Nato nations may have been scrambled.

“Is it not sobering to reflect that the F35s from the Netherlands followed us in rotating air support for Poland, and therefore that if this incursion had occurred just weeks ago, RAF Typhoons could have been directly involved?”

  2. Actually , if drones are coming over Nato, without permission, I think its logical to take out the source.

  3. Starmer isn’t the kind of guy to rock the boat. I wouldn’t hold breath over it.

  4. I guess turkey is the only countries with balls. They shot down a Russian fighter for crossing their airspace, yet NATO is still worried about shooting down unmanned drones.

  5. I call for sending the Normandie Niemen squadron in Poland (after all they fight in Serbia in 1999)

  6. Missile the shit out of the drones launchers. Otherwise they will keep coming

  7. They should shoot down drones over Western Ukraine, before they even get to the border. Stop the hand wringing.
