A large construction company in Denmark has returned its fleet of Tesla cars, citing Elon Musk’s politics.
“We do not want to be associated with the values and political direction that currently accompany the Tesla brand,” the company said in a May 2025 LinkedIn post. The post added they would “replace our Tesla cars with European alternatives.” A spokesperson for the company confirmed in September 2025 that they had “returned and sold” all of their Tesla cars.
In September 2025, a rumor spread that Denmark’s largest construction company had returned its fleet of Tesla cars, citing the politics of Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
For example, a post by Facebook page Tech Viral shared the claim, adding it was an example of a “trend in corporate purchasing” in which the values associated with a brand and its leader “are just as important as the quality of the products” (archived):

Denmark’s largest construction company, Tscherning, has returned its entire fleet of Tesla vehicles, not due to any issues with the cars’ performance, but as a direct response to CEO Elon Musk’s political stances.
The company emphasized that leadership values are as crucial as the technology itself, and by switching to European-made electric vehicles, it seeks to ensure its fleet aligns with its core business principles.
This decision highlights a significant trend in corporate purchasing, where a brand’s reputation and the personal values of its leaders are becoming just as important as the quality of its products.
The post had nearly 90,000 reactions and 10,000 shares. The claim appeared elsewhere on Facebook and on Instagram. Snopes readers also searched the website for information and emailed us asking whether the claim was true.
The rumor was true. Construction company Tscherning A/S announced the move in May 2025 in a LinkedIn post (archived), and confirmed it in an email to Snopes in September 2025.
Tscherning’s May 13, 2025, LinkedIn post included a video of a car-carrying trailer driving away several Tesla cars away:
It read, translated to English:
Tscherning changes gears and drives in a new direction
At Tscherning we not only consider how we drive — but also who we drive with.
That’s why we’ve chosen to hand over the keys to our Tesla company cars – not because Tesla has become a bad car, but in light of Elon Musk’s political commitment and the opinions he has publicly expressed (and which are increasingly hard to overlook), we as a company have chosen to say “thank you for the ride.”
We do not want to be associated with the values and political direction that currently accompany the Tesla brand.
Therefore, we have chosen to replace our Tesla cars with European alternatives.
In a Sept. 10, 2025, email, Tscherning spokesperson Nathalie Cunin Tscherning confirmed the move. “Yes we have indeed returned and sold our Tesla vehicles as stated in our LinkedIn post,” she wrote.
This decision followed months of Musk’s leadership at the Department of Government Efficiency, which U.S. President Donald Trump created by executive order when he took office. Musk also contributed hundreds of millions of dollars to Trump’s 2024 campaign. The two later fell out over the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill Act,” of which Musk disapproved.
However, contrary to an assertion in several social media posts, “Tscherning is by no means the largest construction company in Denmark,” Cunin Tscherning said.
The privately held company announced record revenue of 1 billion Danish kroner (roughly $157 million as of this writing) in 2024-25, a 48% increase from the previous year. “The Tscherning Group rank among the larger companies in the demolition and building sector in Denmark, and among the 1000 largest companies overall in Denmark,” Cunin Tscherning wrote.
