Average prices received by Luxembourg farmers for their products in the second quarter were more than 18% higher than the same period a year ago, one of the largest increases in the EU, according to data published by the bloc’s official statistics agency Eurostat on Wednesday.
The increase in agricultural output prices in the second quarter of this year in Luxembourg were 18.4% higher, surpassed only by Latvia and Ireland, which both saw increases of over 21%. All of the EU’s 27 countries, with the exception of Greece, saw price rises, Eurostat said.

Farmers across the EU recorded an average increase of 5.6% in agricultural output prices, although input prices, the expenses they have to incur in production, remained largely unchanged throughout the bloc, the data showed.
There were large rises in the price of certain goods, such as eggs, fruit and milk, which saw values surge by 27.8%, 21.1%, and 13.3% respectively. Over the year milk prices rose by 17.3% in the Grand Duchy, although there was no Luxembourg-specific data for eggs and fruit included in Wednesday’s report.
