US Open champion Carlos Alcaraz, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Marcel Granollers have pulled out from this weekend’s Davis Cup clash between Spain and Denmark, who will fight for a spot in the Davis Cup Finals in Bologna from 18 to 23 November.
Alcaraz will not play this weekend because of muscular and mental fatigue after winning the US Open final against Jannik Sinner. The Spanish Federation Tennis Federation explained on their website that Davidovich Fokina is no going to travel to Marbella because of fatigue and a busy tournament calendar.
Granollers, who won the US Open doubles title alongside with Horacio Zeballos, will not be replaced. Players who normally play the singles will be available for the singles tournament.
Spain will field only four players Jaume Munar, Pedro Martinez, Robert Carballes Baena and Pablo Carreno Busta. Denmark will be led by their number player Holger Rune. The other Danish players in the team are Elmer Moller. August Holmgren, Christian Sigsgaard and Johannes Ingildsen. Spain leads 3-2 against Denmark in their previous five Davis Cup head-to-head clashes.
