  1. Unfortunately there’s a lot of shoping malls like this in Northern Ireland. Connswater was recently closed down.

  2. Faith jewellery, where you can’t have faith you are buying genuine jewellery.

  3. This is basically all of the UK now, it is quite sad

  4. The best thing about Portadown is the road out of it, which all of those companies seem to have taken.

  5. Plenty of life about Woodhouse street if you take a sharp left. Bookies does plenty of business as does the pub.

In all seriousness. If I can buy the same product online for half the price, without having to leave the house, that’s what im going to do. People may lose their jobs, but other jobs are created.

  6. Too many people buying online and working ridiculous hours. They’ve either no time or patience to leave the house. Just buy local and not from Amazon

  7. How does it remain open with so many empty units? Surely they’d be running in a deficit.

  8. So for all the comments about Amazon etc doing this ..how come the likes of forestside,Kennedy center, the boulevard and junction shopping center in Antrim are doing good? Parking maybe?

  9. This is even worse than the quays in Newry and that is bad! It’s all online now well most of it – shops just do not get the footfall to be viable.

A lady in Claire’s in the quays right beside Sainsbury’s said that in a 12 hour day on a recent Friday the take for the shop was £200 for the day.

It’s just not sustainable. I am in the quays a bit and TBH I don’t think it can be saved if I’m being honest and that is very, very sad.

  10. that mall would be a class spot for a st Georges market kinda trade at weekends

wee stalls, food, some music, nic naks and theres plenty of footfall cause its basically a walk way from lidl to the main street.

    genius

  11. Faith has a sign up saying Closing Down Sale so they are going too. But the nail place and the clothes shop are still open. I feel like this redevelopment has been planned out though since they redid the big courtyard outside and that area is doing fine

  12. It’s being converted to office space at some point in the future

  13. Phone in your pocket plus online shopping makes it very hard for these places to compete not too mention the rates and other increasing costs

  14. Portadown is becoming a ghost town. Everything is being shifted to Rushmere.

  15. if you take a few more steps you have a massive b&m, massive lidl, massive gordons chemist, massive home bargains and a cafe nero where the actual car parking and nice little pedestrian area is

it’s pretty obvious the mall is being phased out in sections and replaced with nicer new units, lets not pretend it’s stone dead. pretty sure the home bargains and gordons used to the at that arse end, and have just moved outside

  16. Charge the landlords the full rates whether they are let or not.

I bet these are still trying to be let out for hundreds of pounds a week.

Start charging landlords rates on empty commercial property and let the free market decide on what they are worth in rent.

Hundreds of empty commercial/industrial properties around the country yet the landlords are looking extortionate rent for them even if they lay empty for years.

  17. As a southern man I go up to northern Ireland a lot mainly to visit family its quite noticeable the lack of shops that once rained supreme it’s a lot to do with tax and rates id say as businesses have a lot of overheads online not so much. Where I live in the south it’s just the same all the good shops are gone and lift with shit foreign food shops a few vape shops and mainly coffee and cafes Its horrific once the shop goes the online will be as expensive if not more as the compation is gone shops hold value even it’s it a 2am for fags and milk that’s what is goina be left and we’re fucked both sides or the border.
