  1. It’s funny to imagine Putin simply not having done anything. They were positioned completely differently. Hell, they arranged the Olympics in Sochi and people barely batted an eye. The gates were open for them to build themselves towards an ever greater influence with good diplomatic maneuvering.

  2. I don’t see how it’s all bad for Russia – if there is a peace deal in the future and Russia keeps the territory it conquered than it was a win for them regardless of the losses. For Russia human lives were always irrelevant, and in the next decades it would be considered their territory internationally, so a big win – nobody stopped them – united nations, EU, nobody…

When I imagine the past wars NATO and US was involved in – nobody invited the forces. Now, Ukraine invited US, NATO, and everybody to help defending their territory, and everybody has shown them a middle finger… I still wonder why…

So, I think we have lost – we didn’t provide enough for Ukraine to win this war and EU has lost a future territory (considering Ukraine would join EU) – and this territory could be used to extract resources we would need in the future.

And now the propaganda perspective. Look at how many people in US and EU are pro-Russia (including high-profile politicians). Russia has the biggest historical support among people and governments thanks to their propaganda.

I understand that it’s what nobody here wants to hear, but the reality is nobody fucking dared to stop Russia. It’s Ukraine vs Russia+North Korea+Iran backed by the industrial complex of China. There is no win if the west doesn’t get more involved. Ukraine has already lost 20% of the country to Russia and I see it mostly irrecoverable.
