The Tories have both failed to recruit and retain GPs over the past 12 years. We have 0.45 per 1000 patients in the UK, which is nowhere near enough to meet normal demand, let alone the post-COVID surge and backlog. With more and more quitting, this is only going to get worse, yet the public blames the GPs and not the system that is driving them out of the profession and/or country.
My GP switched off online service at the beginning of the pandemic. I doubt we’ll see it back. GPs have be one accustomed to earning 60k + a year hideing behind their guard dogs at the reception desk.
