A couple near me moved into the area recently and went for a late night drive and inadvertently got caught up in a military training exercise. 🤣

  1. Very wholesome for a situation that starts out with shooting and shouting

  2. The local reprobates that couldn’t get a job in the real world are out playing with their tomy guns.

  3. I used to live near Catterick Garrison.

Driving home from work one evening, a guy ran from a stone wall into the road, and crouched down facing me, about 200 yards away. Slowed down and came to a stop about 50 years or so from him – that when I saw he had a rifle, with the yellow bit on the shooty end, pointing down the road at me.

Absolutely froze. Thought I was getting robbed. Then a bunch, say a dozen or so, of similarly camouflaged guys jumped the same wall and ran across the road behind him, down into the stream on the other side. Our guy checks left and right, stands up and gives me a big thumbs up before running off after them.

  4. OP, is this a common thing up there? Do you often see roadblock training on (I guess) public roads?

  5. Action on contact with UK forces:

~~Go to ground, return fire, win firefight, advance and overwhelm position, fight through.~~

Say “we’re civvies, that was fun!”

  6. Very cool! I guess they were scenario training judging by the ‘hands up’ as they approached you, must have thought you were a surprise addition to that night’s exercise. Goodonya both for keeping your calm, blanks or not.

  7. Military here. We once came across a couple of walkers whilst on exercise. They were trespassing quite a long way onto a closed training area, so we just assumed that they were part of the exercise and detained them at gun point. One kicked off a bit so got taken to the ground and plasticuffed. It was only when the girl started crying that we started to think something was wrong, and radioed exercise control to check. Bit embarrassing.

Still, they’d have got a shock if we hadn’t stopped them. We were acting as a cordon for an improvised explosive device, and they’d have walked right into the tripwire. Wouldn’t have hurt them, but suspect the massive bang and getting coated in talc wouldn’t have gone down well.

  8. Somebody is finally dealing with the escalation of crime in rural areas. It’s good to see that they are taking the hard line and using weapons to deter the thieves🤣🤣
