Bilateral trade between UAE and Hungary grows nearly 30 percent in first half of 2025

UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan met Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán to discuss ways to boost cooperation across multiple sectors including trade, investment, technology, infrastructure, and renewable energy. The two leaders reaffirmed their countries’ commitment to deepen strategic ties and agreed on expanding partnerships to support mutual development goals and prosperity for both nations, the Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported.

The UAE and Hungary have seen significant growth in bilateral trade in recent years. Trade between the two nations reached approximately $793.7 million in 2024, with the first half of 2025 alone seeing trade volume exceed $434.2 million, marking a nearly 30 percent increase compared to the previous year. These figures underscore growing economic exchanges supported by various signed agreements and memoranda of understanding that facilitate collaboration in diverse fields including agriculture, industry, technology, tourism, logistics, and real estate. Both sides highlighted the role of private sector partnerships and joint ventures as cornerstones of this expanding commerce.

In 2024, the two countries signed an Economic Cooperation Agreement designed to enhance ties across strategic sectors. During the UAE President’s recent visit to Hungary in July 2025, 14 new agreements were signed covering advanced technology, entrepreneurship, infrastructure, tourism, and agriculture. These agreements pave the way for innovative joint projects as well as a UAE-Hungary Business Council to foster business community connections and oversee implementation. Defense industry cooperation has also been advanced, with plans for agreements that further promote innovation and joint military industry development.

Previous high-level visits strengthen relationship

The UAE President’s official visit to Hungary in July 2025 was a milestone in bilateral relations, marked by extensive discussions and the signing of multiple agreements. During that visit, the Prime Minister of Hungary hosted Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, emphasizing confidence that these diplomatic exchanges would serve as a foundation for expanded partnership across economic and technological spheres. Prior visits included the high-level trip of UAE Minister of Foreign Trade Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi to Hungary in September 2025, where discussions focused on sustainable economic growth and renewable technologies.

Both countries agreed to prioritize future cooperation in sectors with high sustainable growth potential, including renewable energy, technology, construction, and logistics.
