For anyone not Eastern European, this is a butcher's tool for chopping and tenderizing meat, mostly pork. This one is probably from the 1950s. My grandfather used it, then my father, and now I have it in my the kitchen drawer in the States. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
Always fun to bring out at dinner parties when I'm pounding out kotley schabowe or z piersi kurczaka, scares the Americans.

Sorry to disappoint you. We use normal kitchen pounder/hammers without an axe side.
So its a nice memento but not normal now
Something like this was used in the past in Poland but nowadays it’s very hard to buy. Also we do not need it anymore
My mother in law uses one like this to hack bones for dogs
Tenderizing meat since 1410.
Phenomenal tool for tenderizing meat and intruders
Where did you get such badass?
My grandma had similar, now inherited by my mom. However, she doesn’t use it.
Everyone gets surprisingly tender when they see this tool.
The one that belongs to my mom, has a very cool half transparent handle.
Kitchen halberd
Just a normal utensil that could be useful when Russians/Germans cross the borders, nothing to look at here.
I want one
