On the topic of the article itself, I appreciate that headlines are often intentionally sensationalist. But the photos of the food are absolutely grim and you couldn’t pay me to eat any of the items pictured – I think ‘slop not fit for a dog’ is perfectly accurate in this instance…
I think the slop is corned beef hash, maybe, might as well be pedigree. You can blend foods and make them look nice so they can’t even say she needed a soft diet to justify it.
No excuse for the pissy pants, none. If they’re wearing pads then it takes hours for that to happen except maybe once in a blue moon when they somehow managed to pee outside the pad entirely.
Sounds very much like she was shoved in a room and given the very basics of care, not uncommon in these places unfortunately. Most people who have worked in care would rather die than be in one.
Absolutely awful but not surprising and not a unique case. This happens all the time. There are many greedy care home owners out there who don’t actually care about the elderly. They pay crap wages and don’t have enough staff. They also employ anyone. When taking on staff in healthcare roles there should be some kind of personality test to ensure the staff are compassionate and caring.
Horrific. We have such a bad distribution of support in society. Many people getting support they don’t need, many not getting enough. Not to mention hoarding of wealth and non participation in the tax system.
Let me guess, staff imported on care worker visas to get their families of twelve over here – before Starmer put that to an end of course
Not to excuse this but:
If she’s had a stroke then she may be on an easy swallow diet. Acting like that cheese sandwich is poison is stupid. If the bread is buttered then that’s about 450+ calories which is quite good for a small meal. Picture number 5 appears to be a pudding with some cream or ice cream even so I’m not sure what the argument is here
The urine thing is quite common, especially given what she’s wearing. Trousers like that often ride up and the material wedges in the nappy. Then when the person wets themselves the urine soaks in tot he trousers. That’s what appears to have happened in that photo.
If she was left after a fall then that’s obviously unacceptable. Same with failure to identify chest infections, should be highly on the look out for those and sepsis.
Don’t get me wrong. Most care is overpriced garbage, £50,000 for someone to be professionally neglected. It’s the reason I’m a full time carer to my mother.
