Montenegrin water polo players will play in a group with Hungary, France and Malta at the European Championships in Belgrade, as decided by a draw in the Serbian capital.

The “Sharks” were drawn from the second pot, along with Serbia, Greece and Romania, so it could have been expected that they would meet some of the big names in the group stage.

16 teams are participating in the European Championship and are divided into four groups.

The three best teams from the group advance to the second phase, where two groups of six teams will be formed and points from the first round will be carried over to the next.

After three new matches, the two top-ranked teams will enter the fight for medals, while the others will face a battle for 5th to 12th place.

The group that includes Montenegro in the second phase crosses over with the group that includes Serbia, Spain, the Netherlands and Israel.

The European Championship is scheduled from January 10th to 25th.

Group A: Hungary, Montenegro, France, Malta;

Group B: Croatia, Greece, Georgia, Slovenia;

Group C: Spain, Serbia, Netherlands, Israel;

Group D: Italy, Romania, Slovakia, Turkey.
