In a new stage of the multinational CAVS program (Common Armoured Vehicle System), Finnish company Patria has delivered the first two 6×6 armored vehicles to the Danish Armed Forces, as part of a total batch of 129 units. This acquisition represents a key step in modernizing the tactical transport capabilities of the Nordic country.
The CAVS program is a joint initiative between Finland, Sweden, Latvia, and Germany, aimed at developing a modular and interoperable armored platform. Production is carried out in Finland, with the participation of Nordic subcontractors, including Danish suppliers.
The 6×6 CAVS armored vehicles are designed to fulfill multiple tactical roles, such as: transporting military personnel; command and communications posts; armored ambulances; electronic warfare platforms; and support for engineer and infantry units.
The first vehicles have already arrived on the island of Bornholm, where they will be used for technical training and operational instruction of mechanics, specialists, and troops. This initial delivery was financed through the Acceleration Fund, which helped speed up the logistical and administrative process.
Colonel Thomas Ø. Knudsen, commander of the Danish Army’s Land Division, highlighted: “The rapid acquisition is the result of close Nordic cooperation. The joint vehicles ensure security of supply and strengthen mutual logistical support.”
As for the program’s schedule, final delivery of the 129 armored vehicles is planned for the end of 2026. The vehicles will be assigned to both the light infantry battalion and the heavy brigade, reinforcing the Danish Army’s response capability in scenarios requiring troop transport both inside and outside national territory, such as in joint or combined exercises.
Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen emphasized the strategic importance of this acquisition: “With the purchase of Patria’s armored vehicles, we are significantly strengthening the Army. This decision modernizes Denmark’s defense and ensures that our soldiers are equipped with updated gear. It is a clear example of how we are accelerating the development of our Armed Forces.”
