Brazil Stopped Its Trump. It’s Pathetic that We Couldn’t Stop Ours. |
Brazil barred Bolsonaro from running again and is sending him to jail. Other countries have done it, too. Why is the United States a unique failure?

  1. Because our constitutional government is buggy and needs an upgrade

  2. Because everyone is in on the grift.

    Release the Epstein files.

  3. Because more than half our population is brainwashed/brain dead

  4. The right has been derailing and destroying education for decades. They’re in a place where they’ve cultivated a large amount of extraordinarily stupid people by stunting their IQs with disinformation about the past and present.

  5. Money is free speech — Citizens United Supreme Court case.

Dark money in politics has created a deeply corrupting political landscape.

  6. Seriously pathetic, Biden’s bugged mistake was not putting the full force of the law behind their arrest and conviction. There’s no unity in this country, only bully tactics.

  7. Our complicity in his wrongdoing sealed our fate. We reaped the consequences of enabling his crimes! Unlike us, Brazil took a righteous course!

  8. The right-wing think tanks. Over the decades they have become better and better at convincing voters that 2+2=5.

  9. Because we have a corrupt political party that has backed this dictator a hundred per cent, and a third of the country THAT DID NOT VOTE!

  10. Not only did the US not stop Chump, but Lil’ Marco is threatening Brazil for stopping theirs. Absolutely nuts.

  11. For the same reasons we don’t have universal healthcare, high speed rail, paid parental leave. Americans want theirs and pulls up the ladder behind them.

  12. Mitch McConnell, Supreme Court (also Mitch McConnell), basically Mitch McConnell. Btw… FUCK Mitch McConnell.

  13. Merrick “FUCKING” Garland wouldn’t investigate political opponents since it seemed against political norms. Now, we have this administration that’s using whatever made up leads to fire/sue/arrest/deport anyone that goes against “dear leader.”

  14. America has never held a president accountable in modern times. Why wouldtthey suddenly start doing it now?

  15. because the 1% control the media and half the country is full of a bunch of brainlets who dont realize that

  16. I’m so disappointed in the conservatives that I thought truly loved this country. They’re willing to see billionaires destroy our constitution and government and way of life to feed their hatred.

  17. because most of Americas are corporate-brainwashed, coward, empty, soulless ghouls.

  18. American exceptionalism has always been propaganda. We’re not a nation who fought world war 2 because we were morally correct. We fought WWII because someone attacked us. Otherwise we would have stayed on the sidelines in our apartheid country and made economic deals with the axis.

What part of American history is noble and good?

  19. The dumbass judge that said: we are not going to prosecute Mr trump at this time for a FELONY because it might interfere with his election campaign.

This still blows up my brain.

  20. In Brazil, the parties actually got something called a backbone and was willing to stand up for what they believe in. In the US, the republican party closes rank even though they might say they don’t agree with it. Susan and Lisa comes to mind….

  21. Moscow Mitch that’s the reason, the opportunity to convict and bar the cheeto from running was there, for partisan reasons, they refused, now he’s coming for the republicans that saved him and even more republicans, those and denial and those that know he’s a turd, still vote to aid and abet his policies.

  22. The Biden adm had Jan 6, the Epstein files, and four years to lock this man up for the rest of his life but they didn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings or something, I honestly don’t know. Four years. If he was a broke black guy with like two toots of cocaine, he’d have been locked up by Tuesday. I really don’t know what’s wrong with Democrats. Brazil did the right thing, what the fuck is our problem?

  23. The legalized bribery via PACs and Lobbyists, insider trading. Our government is entirely up for sale, and the oligarchs want what’s happening now. So our politicians, enough that it prevents change, march lockstep with a shockingly low price.

Look at Clarence Thomas. Dude sold out for a RV and a paid mortgage all so he could hang out with a white supremacist.

  24. It’s because the people we expect to hold Trump accountable also fuck kids.

  25. Unregulated capitalism and a targeted effort by the rich to dissolve every institution we have.

  26. Biden appointing a Republican as his AG prevented it.

  27. Because Reconstruction was sabotaged and what separated us prior to the Civil War still separates us now

  28. Because the richest people in the world live here. Full stop. It’s not about red vs. blue. It’s poor vs. rich. And I don’t mean like kinda rich, like drives a BMW and lives in a nice house in the suburbs rich, I mean like you have your own private island rich. You don’t see these kinds of rich people because they live on an entirely separate plane of existence but they are the ones fucking all of us over, regardless of where you live, what you look like, or what you believe.

  29. I see a lot of comments on here about “right wing propaganda” and “stupid voters”. I assure you, Brazil and South Korea have those too.

    Here’s the real difference:

Brazil was an autocracy as recently as the mid-80s. South Korea was an autocracy until 1989. There are still a lot of voters there who know what living in a system like that is like, and don’t want to go back.

Americans are crippled by our exceptionalism and our belief that It Can’t Happen Here, that’s a big factor. But it’s also a big factor that none of us (barring immigrants) directly experienced autocracy ourselves, we just read about it in history books.
