A man accused of fleeing to Eastern Europe after shooting a man at a CVS in Philadelphia last year was arrested and extradited back to the United States to face charges, officials said.
According to the U.S. Marshals Service, dual U.S. and Georgian citizen Gigi Demetrashvili was extradited back to Philadelphia from Chișinău, Moldova, on the evening of Sept.12, 2025.
Officials said the Philadelphia Police Department wanted Demetrashvili for aggravated assault in relation to a shooting on Aug. 29, 2024.
Demetrashvili had allegedly shot a 19-year-old man at a CVS located on Bustleton Ave. and fled the scene, officials said.
Officials stated that early in the investigation, it was discovered that Demetrashvili had fled the United States to his home country of Georgia. Then on Aug. 20, he traveled to Moldova and was placed in custody after attempting to obtain legal paperwork.

“The arrest of a fugitive wanted in Philadelphia and captured in Eastern Europe is a testament to the international reach of the U.S. Marshals Service,” said Robert Clark, Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal for the Eastern Pennsylvania Violent Crime Fugitive Task Force.
