The longest cave in Bohemia
The Koněprusy Caves are located in the heart of the Protected Landscape Area of Český kras, about 30 km southwest of Prague. Hidden inside the hill of Zlatý kůň, they represent the longest known cave system in Bohemia, measuring over 2 km and reaching a depth of more than 70 meters.
The caves were formed tens of millions of years ago by the action of underground waters that slowly dissolved the limestone massif. Today, visitors admire the three-tiered labyrinth, richly adorned with stalactites and stalagmites, including the unique “Koněprusy roses” with opal, which are unparalleled in Europe.

Since their discovery in 1950, the Koněprusy Caves have become a significant site for both geologists and archaeologists. Fossils of animals from the Ice Age, remains of prehistoric humans, and a medieval workshop for forging counterfeit coins have all been found here. These findings tell a fascinating story about how people have used underground spaces across the millennia.
An ideal tourist destination
Today, the Koněprusy Caves are a popular tourist attraction. Nearly 100,000 visitors from around the world visit them annually. They offer not only the beauty of nature but also adventure, history, and a unique glimpse into the depths of the Earth.
