    They already hit us with the highest percent of tarrifs and not even that stuck, since 700 of products were exempt from it and they just exempt steel and celulose 2 DAYS AGO.

    They already took the judges visas away, none of them cares to vaction on the US for the next 4 years, they used the Magnistiky law agaist them, it didn’t do anything because only the US thinks is trial was somehow an atack on democracy.

    Genually wtf are they gonna do bomb Rio de Janeiro ? The place with the most iconic Jesus statue in the world ? They couldn’t justify a war with Iran good luck luck justifing a war with us.

  13. Jokes aside, why is the Trump administration so offended by Brazil punishing someone for attempting to harm Brazilian democracy?

    The seemingly obvious answer is a parallel between Bolsonaro and Trump, but is that actually what’s going on here?

    It seems like sanctions would possibly be justified had Bolsonaro been successful, but democracy seems to have prevailed and the state is issuing judgment upon the failed insurrectionist which seems completely reasonable.

  17. Trump threatening to sanction Brazil for rightfully finding Bolsonaro guilty based on the evidence presented, yet he won’t sanction the hell out of Russia for killing and kidnapping tens of thousands of Ukrainians.

  30. The original pretext for tariffs was the trade deficit. The USA has no trade deficit with Brazil, which buys a shit ton of stuff. Surprise, surprise: the trade deficit justification was bullshit all along.

  33. I seem to recall the current administration making its policy on how other countries deal with their own citizens quite clear in a previous case only a few months ago:

    “Miller, a top Trump adviser on immigration and other issues, told reporters the U.S. shouldn’t interfere with how El Salvador handles its citizens.

    “He’s a citizen of El Salvador, so it’s very arrogant, even for the American media, to suggest that we would even tell El Salvador how to handle their own citizens,” Miller said.”

Just a couple of days ago, the US had to remove tariffs for cellulose and iron-nickel alloys coming from Brazil, on top of a bunch of other waivers they had silently granted to Brazilian exports which the US is dependant on. This whole “concern” with Bolsonaro is merely a theater for the cameras.

    It’s sheer hypocrisy to wage war in the Middle East to “protect democracy” and “freedom”, and then impose sanctions on a SOVEREIGN country for protecting democracy against a coup.
