Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Sunday said the participation of Chevron and Helleniq Energy in an international tender for four offshore blocks south of Crete and the Peloponnese constitutes de facto recognition of Greece’s sovereign rights in the area.
“The entry of Chevron – the second largest American oil company – alongside Helleniq Energy not only opens a new chapter for exploiting the country’s underwater resources and strengthening energy self-sufficiency,” Mitsotakis said in his weekly Sunday post. “It is also a strong message of recognition of Greece’s energy and geopolitical importance in the eastern Mediterranean, as well as de facto recognition of our sovereign rights south of Crete.”
On domestic policy, the prime minister defended measures announced at the Thessaloniki International Fair, calling them a reform “with a national, demographic, developmental, intergenerational and spatial character” that benefits both vulnerable citizens and the middle class.
The plan being implemented increases everyone’s income as a buffer against inflation and emphasizes the Greek family, recognizing that a household without children faces different challenges than one raising two or three, he noted.
