All attention was focused on Prince Harry during his recent trip to the UK, which witnessed him finally meeting King Charles face-to-face after 19 months. Prior to the father-and-son meeting, there was considerable speculation about whether Harry would encounter any of his Royal family members during his homecoming, given his packed schedule of commitments with the charities he champions.
Ultimately, Harry spent just under an hour with his father at the monarch’s London residence, Clarence House, but he did not encounter his elder brother, Prince William, whilst on British soil.
This occurred despite the two brothers being merely seven miles apart at one point, carrying out separate duties.
With the frosty relationship between the formerly tight-knit siblings showing no signs of warming in the near future, a Royal expert has exclusively revealed to the Mirror the challenging realisation Princess Kate and Meghan are likely to have reached regarding the feuding brothers.
Former BBC Royal correspondent Jennie Bond explained: “I think Catherine and Meghan recognise that this is something the brothers have to work out between them.”, reports the Mirror.
The Royal expert clarified that whilst Royal enthusiasts are sure to be delighted seeing Harry make moves towards reconciliation with his father during the King’s ongoing health struggles, repairing relations with William is likely to prove far more complex. Partly, Jennie suggested, this might be exacerbated by the fact that while Harry left Royal life and relocated to California, William has stayed behind, fulfilling his duties as heir to the throne even during a particularly challenging time in his personal life, with his wife Kate undergoing cancer treatment.
William “has stood by his father through the past few tough years,” Jennie stated, “he has stood IN for his father when needed, and he has stood UP for his father, declaring they are ‘very much not a racist family’.”
The assertion that the royals were not “a racist family” followed Harry and Meghan’s explosive interview with Oprah in 2021, where the couple claimed that “concerns” were voiced by royals about what Prince Archie’s skin colour would be.
The expert pointed out that all of these factors combined could have potentially stirred some “resentment” in William towards his brother returning to town and meeting with their father.
“I’m sure the King would have informed William in advance about his decision to meet Harry,” said Jennie, “But William wouldn’t be human if he didn’t feel some resentment about Harry flying back for a few days that grabbed headlines, very publicly donating to charities (which is something the rest of the Royal Family do regularly – but discreetly) and strutting his stuff…while his brother handles the day-to-day meet and greet business of the Royal workload?”.
The expert further suggested that a reconciliation between Harry and William might “never happen” following years of public allegations made by the Sussexes against the royals and their staff.
“Time may yet prove the great healer, but where William is concerned, now is certainly not the right time for reconciliation with his sibling. Indeed, it may never happen.”
