Wallonia is one of the less succesfull regions according to different KPI’s and as such gets cohesion and regional development subsidies from the EU.
These maps are great and all, but OP’s should really start putting context where needed
Belgium gets a lot of EU money for maintenance of EU headquarters (which in relative terms is a lot, due to Belgium’s small size); this is incorporated in the color. Dismissing that number would make Belgium blue as well.

Classic Belgian entrepeneurship: you start a business to be able to spend your old age living off its revenue and leaving the investments to junior partners.
Never trust an infograph with a typo in its title…
