Meanwhile, showing her well-known discretion, Eugenia of York has always preferred to stay away from her father’s problems. So much so that she has even avoided commenting on the abuse allegations surrounding him.
However, despite this delicate situation, his daughters have become Prince Andrew’s main supporters. In Princess Eugenia’s case, this support might have an explanation.
Recently, Eugenia of York has broken her silence through an interview to talk about one of the hardest moments of her life. As she herself has confirmed, at just 12 years old, she was diagnosed with a disease that led her to undergo surgery at an early age.
Eugenia of York felt very supported by Prince Andrew during this difficult time in her life
Despite belonging to the British royal family, Eugenia of York has managed to keep part of her private life a secret. So much so that it was not until now that Prince Andrew’s daughter has shared this difficult episode of her life. She did so during an interview with The Telegraph.
During her conversation with the aforementioned media outlet, King Charles III’s niece revealed that she was diagnosed with scoliosis when she was still a child. This condition, although detected at an early stage, significantly affected her development.

Scoliosis is a lateral curvature of the spine. In most cases, it is diagnosed during adolescence and doesn’t always pose a serious risk. However, it can lead to severe limitations over the years.
In her case, Eugenia of York has stated that her curvature was severe enough to require surgery. So much so that specialists recommended the procedure as the only solution.
A surgery that, as she mentioned in the interview, caused her “great suffering.” In fact, this procedure forced the princess to remain in bed for ten days. That immobility completely interrupted her routines and led her to miss four months of school.

During that time, Eugenia of York needed to use a wheelchair for six days. However, the constant support of her loved ones, especially Prince Andrew, was key to her recovery.
“I couldn’t get out of bed, I couldn’t do anything for myself,” the princess said, always avoiding the word trauma. However, she did admit to having experienced a strong emotional impact.
In addition, Eugenia of York has not hesitated to say that “I was very ashamed about the whole thing.” “I don’t know why or where that came from,” she added, stating that “the inability that comes with a spinal cord injury is very difficult to cope with.”
Her surgery lasted eight hours (8 h). During this time, doctors inserted titanium rods on each side of her spine, as well as screws at the top. After the operation, she spent three days (3 d) in the ICU and several weeks hospitalized.
