Because our society is so scared and paranoid. These days HR sections of companies are paranoid and will fire people if they think they could even possibly be sued.
And social media is actually antisocial.
Our opinion of Charlie Kirk shouldn’t matter at all. So long as we are not calling for violence or endorsing violence.
You know, so long as we’re not doing what Charlie Kirk was fond of doing.
American society has divided into roughly two tribes, and I truly believe that a war between them has begun. Been going on for a little while now already, but this seems to have finally crystallized it into a straightforward “us vs them” mindset.
Doesn’t matter what you’re actually saying now, all that matters is that you flag yourself as being on one side or the other and then the opposing side hates you from that point onward.
Firm advocate most people should keep their opinions to themselves. Or Reddit. Or 4chan.
Like I said a little while ago…
> some of you forgot that freedom of speech does not mean freedom of consequence
> If you call your boss every hour, and tell him that he’s an asshole, you’re technically allowed to do that, but the consequence is that you’re probably going to get fired before the end of the week
“There will be consequences if you do not mourn his death to our expectations.”

Fresh out of empathy for Charlie. Just as he wanted.
