Romania scrambles fighter jets after drone breaches air space • FRANCE 24 English

It was two F-16 fighter jets like these that detected a drone in Romania’s airspace. The Romanian Defense Ministry says the jets were patrolling near the border following Russian air strikes on Ukrainian infrastructure. At 1823, F-16 aircraft detected a drone in national airspace which they tracked to approximately 20 km southwest of Chile where it disappeared from radar. The drone did not fly over populated areas and did not pose an imminent danger to the safety of the population. It’s the second breach of NATO airspace in just a matter of days after Poland said it shot down several Russian drones earlier in the week. In response, the alliance is beefing up its defenses with a new operation dubbed Eastern Sentry, which aims to reinforce its eastern border with Bellarus, Russia, and Ukraine. The US has also vowed to defend every inch of NATO territory. that this shouldn’t have happened. I don’t think anybody’s happy about it seeing happen. You saw NATO respond to it appropriately. Um we don’t want to see it happen again. We think it’s a um unacceptable and and unfortunate and and dangerous uh development in this regard. With tensions high, Poland’s Lublin airport temporarily closed on Saturday after a drone alert was issued. Meanwhile, Russia and Barus are pressing on with their joint operations near the Polish border known as Zapad 2. who the two countries had already carried out similar exercises back in 2021, just months before Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

A drone on Saturday breached Romanian air space, prompting the NATO-member to scramble fighter jets, the country’s defence ministry said. Russian drones have previously breached Polish air space.

  17. Putin keeps pushing the envelope of war and no doubt sits back amused with what he can get away with. It appears Russia and China supported by North Korea and Iran are getting ready for a fight. One can only wonder if NATO is ready enough to take one a bloody task.

  19. My Moldovan friend ran from his country because he said the young men are conscripted to fight for Russia in parts of Moldova by the government. That doesn’t get shown in the news

    My Kazakh friend also said his country has been secretly preparing to enter Ukraine war since 2020

  24. i like russian approach, these guys will go bankrupt if for every drone they fly fighter jets, need cheaper option !! i think this is due to over reliant on USA ..
