dear Folks,
I’m American lives in Brussels. I just got my F card, then, I’m wondering do I need to start enroll the Belgium social security plan since here is home.
I’m a self-employed guy. I looked from internet, seems I need to choose a security fund from the list <[https://www.nisse.be/en/list-social-security-funds](https://www.nisse.be/en/list-social-security-funds)\>, but I’m wondering are these private providers? Is there anything governmental?
I’m also confused that after enroll the fund, do I get the health care from it? Or I would should still get another health insurance?
Thanks a lot.

You need to pick one of those on the list, they are essentially middle-men between you and the government and exist to handle all your fees. Then you have to enroll with a health fund and you have to prove to them that you’re paying your social security fees with one of these funds.
all those funds offer pretty much the same deal in terms of what you have to pay them in social security contributions and what they give back to you should you fall ill and need medical care or can’t work. they really just cover basic care. the contributions are indexed to projected income but the reimbursements are the same. they mostly differ in the availability and quality of their customer service in english and possibly the kind of extra coverage they offer (dental, elective/alternative treatments etc).
as a self employed person, even at the lowest level of income, from memory, your average monthly contribution would be roughly 300 euros a month. if you’re just starting out and don’t really have any clients, AND your spouse already has a job, then you can always get coverage through her job if you are officially unemployed.
If you’re self employed don’t you already have this shit in order? Or do you mean you have a business in the US?
