When the boy was returned to the hospital, his clothes contained >Home Office documents that incorrectly stated his name and date of birth, and recorded his nationality as Nigerian.
>“How do they know he’s from Nigeria, when he doesn’t even speak to them?” the woman said of her son.
Chilling makes me wonder how many homeless people they’ve secretly deported and God alone knows who else.
God this sounds awful. The article says he gave a false name and dob so it may have matched someone similar and he just got lumped in to system.
This is a thousand percent an NHS failing. They continually let us down with mental health care and stuff like this happens.
There was another article recently about a man kept in police custody for 5 days because the NHS couldn’t find a bed on a MH ward.
Horrific and unacceptable.
Why did the teenager gave a fake name and date of birth when asked?
I’m an American (Irish descent) and I moved to the UK with my British husband and my two children who were ‘British at birth’, born in the US to a British father. We had to hide my daughters in hotels for weeks on end as the Home Office made a mistake and continue to try to deport them ‘to Afghanistan’. FYI Afghanistan was just the first country alphabetically, we are not Arab and have no ties to the country. They did this for YEARS.
Why were BTP *searching the address* of someone arrested on suspicion of fare dodging?
Raft of suspicious details after that.
There has to be a public inquiry, not this internal review nonsense.
How many children and other vulnerable people have been dumped in random countries following such cavalier procedures? How many of those are British children, as this guy is?
If the guy arguing with me about tories aren’t the party of racism sees this, then I’m sad how quickly I can be proven correct.
>This week, a BTP commander informed her that once >they searched the Kent deal with the boy had supplied, >they found a Nigerian household residing there. She >was informed that officers gathered the boy was from a >Nigerian background as he had the identical accent >because the residents. She contested this assertion, >describing her son’s accent, when he does not often >communicate, as Mancunian and London.
So does he talk or not?
If it is as appears then the police have behaved appallingly.
However because the Guardian are reporting this it makes me sceptical we’re being told the full story.
I want the Guardian to publish those documents that claim to show him listed as a Nigerian.
Non verbal. What was his true background? It is rare to have someone who is non-verbal unless they have special needs. If your are non verbal your can write, type or use sign language.
Every fucking day I find a way to hate the Tories more.
A reminder that a huge percentage of the UK population would have liked to see him deported anyway, regardless.
The political centre is veering towards a genuinely scary place here.
Ah, this would be the same police who sexually assaulted a *different* black teenager while “searching for cannabis”?
This whole sequence is utterly appalling. How do these individuals who enabled this all live with themselves? They are the problem.

The only thing surprising here is they found the kid.
A large portion of the UK will support how this was handled.
Some relevant reading as the UK government seems intent on following Australia down this disgraceful path.
