In his controversial memoir Spare, Prince Harry alleged that his brother, Prince William, physically attacked him in a fight.

The Duke of Sussex’s book was released in January 2023. It contained many allegations about the royal family as the prince told his experience of growing up in the monarchy.

According to Prince Harry, who turns 41 on September 15, he and his brother got into a disagreement over his wife, Meghan Markle.

Did Prince Harry and William have a fight?

Writing in his memoir Spare, Prince Harry alleged that an argument between him and William over the Duchess of Sussex broke out in 2019.

The confrontation reportedly took place at Harry’s Nottingham Cottage home in London.

Harry said that William called Meghan “difficult”, “rude” and “abrasive”.

From there, Harry claimed that things escalated and William was “not being rational”.

As tensions began to rise, Harry claimed that William became angered and stepped towards him, swearing.

As Harry moved into the kitchen and offered his brother a glass of water, he claimed that’s when the alleged incident took place.

Harry wrote: “He set down the water, called me another name, then came at me. It all happened so fast. So very fast. He grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor.

“I landed on the dog’s bowl, which cracked under my back, the pieces cutting into me. I lay there for a moment, dazed, then got to my feet and told him to get out.”

Harry claimed that William urged him to hit back, which he refused to do. The future king then left, “looking regretful, and apologised”, according to Harry.

Harry said that William turned back and told him he didn’t “need to tell Meg about this”.

The Duke of Sussex explained that he didn’t tell Meghan straight away, instead calling his therapist.

However, he later told Meghan about the incident after she noticed “scrapes and bruises” on his back.

At the time, Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace didn’t comment on the claims. Royal Insider has since contacted reps for the Prince of Wales for comment.

Harry’s relationship with William now

Harry’s relationship with his brother has become more strained over the years. During Harry’s visit to the UK last week, he met up with his father, King Charles, at Clarence House. However, it’s believed there was no meeting between Harry and William.

In a recent interview with The Guardian, Harry defended his memoir, Spare.

He said: “I know that [speaking out] annoys some people and it goes against the narrative. The book? It was a series of corrections to stories already out there. One point of view had been put out and it needed to be corrected.

“I don’t believe that I aired my dirty laundry in public. It was a difficult message, but I did it in the best way possible. My conscience is clear.”
