Hallo ihr Lieben. I’m currently doing my Sozialkunde assignment, the theme is Sozialstaat. I post a photo here so you guys can understand what I’m asking. The thing is…after calculating Monatsverdients 3 (10 000€) and reading from some sources such as [Beitragsbemessungsgrenze 2022: Wie hoch ist sie? (krankenversicherung.net)](https://www.krankenversicherung.net/beitragsbemessungsgrenze) , it even confuses me more. On the website it says:
” Ein Arbeitnehmer, der über ein Einkommen von 6.000 Euro brutto verfügt, müsste **ohne** Beitragsbemessungsgrenze einen Krankenversicherungsbetrag von rund 477 Euro pro Monat (Zusatzbeitrag von 1,3 Prozent) zahlen. Da sein Einkommen aber nur bis zur Beitragsbemessungsgrenze berücksichtigt wird, verringert sich sein Versicherungsbeitrag auf rund 385 Euro.”
and my calculation’s result is 780€.
Can you please explain me this Beitragsbemessungsgrenze concept? because I’ve been searching and trying to understand it, and it’s still difficult. I would love to discuss with my teacher, but his way of teaching has frustrated me and other classmates :(((

Insurance contributions are a percentage of your income.
However, only the income up to the Beitragsbemessungsgrenze is taken into account. That means that someone who earns 4837.50 pays the maximum possible contribution. Someone who earns 10,000 Euro pays the exact same amount: The percentage is only calculated out of the first 4837.50 Euro. The other 5162.50 are “free”.
You only have to pay a limited amount of social security. Because imagine if you would make millions of dollars you would have to pay 10k a month for social security.
So Germany said after a certain percentage your social security is fixed.
That’s what beitragsbemessungsgrenze means.
He only pays 385 € even though by calculating his pay by percentage he would have to pay 780€.
