Is there anything you don’t like about Switzerland?

  1. 1. I wish marijuana was legal already (not talking about cbd), with the same constraints as alcohol.
    2. the fact that if you become a home “owner” you never fully pay off your debts solely because of tax reasons. It’s a ridiculous system which make the banks the real owners of every residential houses.

  2. Some things off the top of my head….

    1. We have a long way to go towards real gender equality, racial equality, gender/orientation equality. It often feels like we are still living in 1950. Even when laws change, society is very slow to adapt.
    2. We favour the economy above nearly everything in political thinking and action.
    3. Social programs for those in need seem poorly implemented as a matter of intent.
    4. Everything is expensive, many things outrageously so.
    5. Pension stability and an ageing population worries me and we seem to not be doing much to correct for this.
    6. MFK is a pain in the ass.

Again, just a few things to make a quick list. I love a lot more things about Switzerland than I dislike, and I’m generally happy with things.

  3. I don’t like the fact that school closes for the lunch time. Me and my wife are both working and it makes our lives difficult. Kids love it though so we don’t complain too much 🙂

But seriously, why would you assume in 21st century that one of the parents has time to cook lunch in the middle of the day?

  4. – conservatives
    – not everyone is treated equally. everyone is a human, and deserves to be treated equally (unless they treat you like shit)
    – the fact it has taken people so long to accept gay/lesbian marriage

  5. That our head is so deep down in the ass of capitalism.
We could have so many meaningful changes, but the conservatives can say, “what about the money”, and they just automatically win the vote without any sound reasoning

  6. I don’t like how I don’t live there anymore.

Also on my last visit with my family I don’t like how I got the feeling like I wasn’t good enough to be there anymore since I struggled so much with my swiss-german. Like I let my childhood fade away and shouldn’t consider it home anymore.

  7. Hmm I understand how Switzerland has many official languages and I love the idea of how they value the coexistence. But as an expat, facing 3 languages none of which I can’t properly understand quite sucks. Not everyday inconvenience but still.

  8. That if you criticise something, people get uber-defensive about it.

For example, if you point out that another country does something better there than in Switzerland, most people lose their shit and start explaining why you can’t compare it.

I think that’s really a dangerous attitude because it shuts down discussions about how to do things better, and shuts down discussions about things that are going wrong.

  9. The incredible wealth inequality, the health insurance system (healthcare is great though), the conservatism of huge parts of the population that peaks in xenophobia and sexism, football fans, the influence of the reformed church on the culture (it’s actually far more strict than its Catholic counterpart). The religious work ethics makes me unreasonably mad. And I don’t even mean the evangelicals, I mean the Bünzlis who start working at 6:30
