Hey everyone,

I just wanted to take a moment to say how much I admire the progress Spain has made in recent years. From an outside perspective, it feels like the country has taken huge steps forward, both internally in terms of society and governance, and externally with its role on the international stage.

It’s really inspiring to see Spain in such great shape, more confident and respected than ever. You should all be proud of what your country has become—your culture, your resilience, and your vision for the future really stand out in Europe and beyond.

Much love and congratulations from an Italian cousin. ❤️🇮🇹

  1. I really hope the Europe project stay strong, so we can cooperate all together for a better future. Ciao bambino!

  2. I’m Pro Spain, and planning on moving there, so don’t take my request in a negative tone, but what has happened in recent years?

  3. post hecho por mi amigo el lobotomizado o el progresista que se las da de guiri.

  4. It’s fucking hilarious how people from outside see how good we are doing (with obvious complications such as the enormous prize of real state), while people within Spain are extremely negative towards the government that achieved these incredible changes.

  5. Let’s hope it continues this way and hope for less coward political class everywhere.

  6. What are you talking about? We’re drowning in shit.

    WARNING: GOVERNMENT PROPAGANDA

  8. Defending violent people because they have a flag (Palestine) as an excuse. Doesn’t seem to be very smart. Neither peaceful project.

There are 22 hard wounded people from those “heroic” protesters….

  9. We are drowning in corruption, violent crimes and poverty. The TV only shows you what they want you to see.

  10. The main problem is the rulers, whether from one party or another, because they don’t seek the long-term good of their country. They seek power and to govern at all costs, even if they have to do things that are harmful to the country in the long run.

They don’t fix the structural problems; they let the ball roll for the next ruler.

  11. What? Can you please mention something specific?
I’ve been here 17 years and I really do not se a lot of change. Except that everything is a lot more expensive and the salaries are still really shit.

  12. As a German who lives in Spain, let me tell you 3 areas that in Spain are FAR FAR FAR more advanced in Spain compared to Germany, and which nobody believes me (on neither side, German nor Spanish, do people believe when I say this). It drives me NUTS how negative – and frankly ungrateful – some Spaniards are toward their own country, especially those who’ve never lived abroad. Here goes the list.

    – Universal Healthcare: yes it’s true that you do wait a long time for treatment that is not immediately necessary and psychiatric and psychotherapeutic access could be better, but both of these things are true for Germany without private health insurance and the half public half private system in Germany is inefficient, classist and leads to over under and mis treatment of various very typical issues at the same time.

    – primary and pre primary education: pretty much everyone (at least where I live) can get their kids into public school from ages as early as 4 months old, which coincides Directly with the time off that social security provides you with. Secondary and tertiary education are a different story but man am I glad I had my kids in Spain

    – digitisation of public administration: I can download a birth certificate in Spain and it’s valid because it will have an electronic certificate of authenticity and it costs me nothing more than the paper that I print it on. In Germany I have to take 2 weeks out an appointment and then pay for them to give me a copy of a document that is mine anyway just because a physical person signs and stamps it because electronic authentication codes on public documents doesn’t exist for some reason. Whenever I tell a clerk what a hassle X y or z administrative Task would be for me in Germany they think I’m trolling them

Honourable mention: this is a question of preference because some people prefer the German version but in Spain I get 4 months of parental leave exempt from taxes (I get my gross salary as net salary from the social security) plus other benefits when in Germany I can take out up to 18 months, but my pay is gradually reduced so I have to be able to afford my leave . PLUS after these 18 months I won’t have a nursery anyway so why even bother….

    German out!

  13. My goodness… This is how Spain goes…🤣🤣🤣

  14. I feel there is so much truth in this. We are a very social-foward country and progressive leaning, which is a lot seeing the state of the world. With that being said, I wish we could tackle the lack of affordable real state for good. I live in a very gentrified area and it is making life very difficult.

  15. As a Spaniard living in Spain, I agree. It won’t last though, because right wing propaganda is delicious to fidiots.

  16. Viva España also from another Italian! 🇪🇸🇮🇹🙏💖

  17. You gotta be kidding. Spain has gone downhill for a decade now.

Education is worse, public healthcare is worse, housing is worse, salaries eaten up by inflation, crime rate and security overall is worse. So you tell me.

🤝🏻👩🏻‍🤝‍👨🏼🏳️‍🌈🌍🏛🧪⚖️

  19. The only thing Spain has going for it is it’s social progressiveness, but unfortunately that doesn’t reduce poverty, raise wages or make housing affordable.

I can tell you most Spaniards aren’t confident at all, and I’ll still be proven wrong here because Spanish Reddit is a bubble made up of overwhelmingly white, male, upper-middle class and english-speaking people who are faring much better than 90% of the people in Spain (but they’ll tell you they feel part of the bottom 70%).

  20. Every country has its pros and cons, I wouldn’t judge only for political reasons.

As a person that has lived in 4 countries, I found real joy in each of them, and real WTF.

I think it’s more about your lifestyle, beliefs and preferences.

You want safety? Go to northern countries like Poland, Slovenia, etc…

You want sun? You gotta live in the south.

The question is:how much is it worth the non-fitting part for you to stay there 🙃

    Cheers to everyone!

  21. “Proud of what your country has become”. I guess OP is calling us savages who are finally doing good. Our history is not the best one can have, but we are proud we had the most progressive and human constitutions at the time they were made in 1812 and 1931. Our women voted before most “civilized” countries. Yes, we are proud.

  22. In reality, Spain has evolved backwards. For a person who knows its story, the situation is very sad.

  23. I feel like the youth unemployment rate and the housing pricing are two extremely vital problems that have only gotten worse

  24. Increasingly poorer and insecure, but hey, they have inclusive language, multiculturalism and a gender perspective. That’s not enough to eat, but what else is for? No? 😏

  25. You’re so biased, Spain is doing worse, we have more diversity and immigration ruining our culture, our streets and compromising our safety.

  26. While I think it’s great you see it that way, let me tell you the sudden international position of power we have now is not a safeguard for internal stability. Spain doesn’t have planned long term investments in economic terms. In political, and social terms, society is more divided than ever thanks to issues like nationalisms, immigration and cultural wars, where large part of the public knows the parliament could tilt to the hard right very soon because of some disastrous politics from this Government.

I still think this Government has been a good international player for most of the time. For fuck’s sake, Spain just needs to do the bare minimum now that the British are out of the EU. But at least is better than Rajoy’s there.

TLDR: Spain is strong, but we don’t know how to be a normal country

    Do you believe it?
