Leo employing an MI5 agent to head the police looks less smart every day
Sure of course they were listening in. They allegedly spied on the EU constantly too, as did the French…
… and the Danes (on behalf of the Americans in that case!)
The EU had to do routine bug sweeps.
How desperate is he to sell that book? It would be more of a surprise if they weren’t bugging the government.
The British were bugging everyone during Brexit, and for ~800 years beforehand.
Don’t forget folks, Leo’s memoir is out now! Perfect for all your Christmas gifting.
Doesn’t seem to have done them any good, given the absolute hames they made of it.

We were fairly honest from the start what was required with Brexit so bugging shouldn’t reveal any secret information for them anyway.
Never not at it.
All that intelligence they stole and they still carried on like silly little tans on a holiday through the negotiations.
jaysus Leo, how were you Taoiseach and unaware that GCHQ bugs EVERYONE (as does China, US, Russia, Israel, France, Germany..)
In diplomatic circles, you have to assume that everyone is listening.
Well, well, well… Look who’s at it again.
I’d say they still are bugging communications.
Also doing what ever other fuckery they see fit to do.
> He also said he was motivated to avoid a hard border due to the legacy of his party with the anti-Treaty side of the Irish Civil War. […] The party he led, Fine Gael, evolved from the anti-treaty faction
Ehhhhh….
For those who don’t read the article which massively contradicts the headline.
> Mr Varadkar also told that paper: “What I said in the book, and this is what I really meant, is that we did not know whether or not we were being listened to but we knew they had the capabilities to do so.
It has been the understanding of Irish governments since the inception of the state, that the British are 100% listening in at all times.
It’s not the Russians or Chinese or Americans we should be fretting over, it’s always the British.
Everyone with the resources is bugging everyone. And the Americans Russians, Chinese and Israelis will do it just to get information to trade or blackmail politicians. It’s a market.
And it happens in industrial and corporate secrets too.
In fact it is fair to say that we are in the era of “no secrets”. Which isn’t the same as the era of free information to all. There is still a lot of money and benefit to be made from keeping information to a few people.
The suggestion that those pricks put the effort into bugging anyone when they didn’t even research their own side is … interesting!
They were buggin us all right, they’d never fucking stop
Honestly, I would be stunned if both sides hadn’t been using their intelligence apparatuses against each other.
If not for stuff like this, then what are spies even for?
And Israel probably done the same when Jennifer Carroll MacNeill brought an “ex-Israeli spy” into the Taoiseach’s office and showed them around. I hope that place was searched after.
On another note, the UK is monitoring all communications that come from Ireland through the cables.
Fortunately they learned nothing.
Has anyone actually read the article? Lord almighty…
Says Fine Gael was the anti-treaty party…
Repeatedly calls Boris Johnson Boris JohnsTon…
Does anyone proof this drivel before they publish?
In news that surprises literally none of us…
“The party he led, Fine Gael, evolved from the anti-treaty faction….” is this not 100% wrong?
Drew Harris is the most obvious spook there is. If the Brits have been able to get away with that, they can get away with anything they want here.
