Good, personal take is circumcision is weird. Cutting off how we’re supposed to be born. Also nerve endings are there so makes orgasms worse for the individual
oh here we go…the only thing that generates more comments than circumcision is bidets
Good news! Circumcision = genital mutilation
We need to stop the antiquated practice. Let men feel again.
I’m surprised that the drop isn’t bigger. I kind of thought it was more universally agreed that it is a useless procedure now.
Good, we don’t cut baby girls clitorises off. Why would humans ever see a newborn male baby and decide they want to take a razor to its penis?
Anybody who says it’s easier to clean, you’re ignorant. Males get more pleasure from an uncircumcised penis.
The worst part is people do it before the male even can decide on his own if he wants it done or not
Until last week I thought this was a rare occurrence.. not most of the male population
Before everyone starts debating: actually read the article and find out whether or not circumcision is recommended as a medical practice, and why.
I know this used to be one of Reddit’s favorite topics of all time, but I’m actually surprised the number drop isn’t more significant.
>Scientific evidence supporting the health benefits of male circumcision — surgical removal of the foreskin from the penis — dates back hundreds of years to observations made by physicians of their circumcised patients. More recently, research has continued to confirm that the procedure reduces penile inflammation, urinary tract infections, and acquisition of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, such as genital herpes and HPV (known to cause oral, cervical and penile cancers).
>In response to the evidence, the World Health Organization (2007), the American Academy of Pediatrics (2012) and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (2018) have all recommended that male babies be circumcised for lifelong health benefits….
>Among the factors listed by the researchers is parental distrust of medical advice.
>“Despite overwhelming evidence that neonatal male circumcisions provide health benefits, increasing public skepticism in the United States toward medical recommendations may be driving more parents to choose not to have their sons get circumcised,” explains Tobian….
>”by 2011, one year before our study period began, 17 states had ended Medicaid coverage for routine neonatal male circumcisions,” says Tobian. “This likely created barriers to such services for families at low-income levels during the decade we analyzed.”
From the source article, since I don’t think any of the comments are reading it.
Me white, wife chinese, son is unaltered.
For those who can’t or choose not to read:

The hospital didn’t even ask if we wanted it done when my son was born. Seems like the default M.O. these days is to assume the parents don’t want circumcision unless they specifically ask for it.
DESPITE recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics and the CDC.
Anybody equating female and male circumcision obviously has no understanding of anatomy.
Is it absolutely mandatory? No. Is it safe and effective at reducing some risk of infection and STD transmission as well as culturally congruent in certain societies? Yes. Can both circumcised and uncircumcised men live normal happy lives? Obviously.
I’m a urologist so happy to hear all the TikTok opinions on here.
Really surprised that black male circumcision rates are nearly the same rate as white male circumcisions
The increased risk of UTIs from not circumcising is sooo overblown. <1% increased risk.
Data really is beautiful! It is truly great to see that parents mutilating their babies genitals at a dramatically lower rate.
And yes, I’ve read the studies, but when you *really* read them you’ll see that an uncircumcised member is of no real health risk if you put a rubber on your jimmy and wash under the foreskin every time you bathe.
Like, increased risk of HPV? Bitch please! Smegma? See ya!
Hmm… as a US parent here our experience was that all our health providers supported that it was a personal choice and in fact none would tell us we should or that the health benefits were significant enough to recommend one way or the other.
We really stressed over the decision tbh because of the lack of clarity. We chose not to and received positive responses from the physicians that saw our son.
The article seems surprisingly pro-circumcision. Anyway it was not our experience the way this reads.. as we ARE trusting of medical advice and following recommendations.
Edit: just did a quick search to confirm I’m not crazy and even John’s Hopkins has this
It is important to learn about the benefits and risks of circumcision. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has found that the health benefits of circumcision are greater than the risks. But the AAP also found that these benefits are not great enough to advise that all newborn babies be circumcised. Parents must decide what’s best for their baby.

this is the dumbest shit that it’s still happening.
Interesting. I’d love to see how Canada compares.
Well at least penile cancer doctors now have a bright future.
Medicaid no longer covers it in a number of states.
You mean child genital mutilation rates
