I often find myself very confused about is National University of Ireland Galway in Galway. Thank Christ this new name change will clear up all that confusion /s
I suspect this has more to do with GMIT’s new name change and they want to make sure people know they are the only ‘real’ university in Galway.
I preferred when it was UCG.

Should’ve gone the Maynooth (NUIM) route by renaming to Galway University.
Seems silly, now that GMIT became ATU, they’re not the only university in Galway, yet alone Galway City. Idk, NUIG flows nicer when spoken out-loud imo.
