From September 30, electricity can be bought and sold in 15-minute time units (Market Time Units/MTUs) on the European Single Day-Ahead Coupling (SDAC) market. The first delivery date will be 1 October 2025.

The introduction of the new system, which replaces 60-minute trading, had previously been postponed on 14 May, but now all preparations have been completed, which brings together the Nominated Electricity Market Operators (NEMOs) across Europe.

During the year-long test campaign, local, regional, and cross-border functions, connections between parties, and system readiness were verified. Designated electricity market operators (NEMOs) and transmission system operators (TSOs) tested their systems under various market conditions.

The SDAC aims to allocate scarce cross-border transmission capacities efficiently by linking the wholesale electricity markets of each region using a common algorithm, taking into account cross-border transmission constraints. Its goal is to create a single, Europe-wide day-ahead electricity market.
