Some on Facebook were arguing that the question “Semmi zewgt tip ta xogholijiet li l-immigranti wisq probably jaghmlu.” is racist. This question appeared on the Environmental Studies O level ( I should note that the English version was certainly worded differently.) I personally don’t understand how it is racist. Thoughts?

  1. It is racist because maybe they want to do another job that they like or have a degree at. They are human. There are lots of foreigners for example that work in gaming and even offices etc. It’s like putting them in a box and saying because you are a foreigner you cannot do the job that you want. Doesn’t make sense does it. It is wrong in my opinion. Xi haga zejda wkoll min qal ekk vojta l haga u ed juru li razzisti.

  2. i agree that it sounds racist and also it looked like they literally ran the Maltese paper through Google translate and that’s what the English paper was

anyway that exam was stupid anyway don’t remember anything in the past 3 years about any of the questions

  3. It’s not racist but it will sound racist to those that are easily triggered. Everything can be racist nowadays. People are also being forced to use “soft language” and to be politically correct. Immigrants, migrants, expats, foreigners…..what’s the difference?

  4. It is obviously racist. How is being an immigrant enough information to figure out what kind of job they have? What is their education background? My father is an English immigrant and works as a sales manager, but I doubt I would have gotten the marks if I answered with that.

And to anyone who thinks that it isn’t racist and blaming the ‘snowflake generation’ for easily being triggered, I doubt you would be saying that if you were being marginalised. This question is literally taking such a wide and varied group, and summarising them into a single socioeconomic level. It is implying that all immigrants are one and the same and all have the same set of jobs, I wonder what the correct answer is… Knowing the MUT, they expect low-paying answers.

  5. It isnt racist, its a very very stupid question but there is no race mentioned. The racist ones are the people saying its racist because they are matching the word “imigrant” to a race
