Bank of Korea Governor Lee Chang-yong will be a speaker at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) ‘Michelle Kandsh Central Bank Lecture’ to be held in Washington, DC on the 18th (local time), the Bank of Korea said on the 16th. This is the first time that a governor of the Bank of Korea has been invited as a lecturer.

The Michel Kandsh Lecture is an annual event held by the IMF since 2014 to strengthen cooperation with member central banks and discuss major issues, and is named to commemorate the achievements of the longest-serving president in IMF history. Kandsh served as IMF president for 13 years from 1987 to 2000. When Korea signed the IMF bailout agreement in December 1997, it was the party at the scene. The IMF annually invites central bank governors from major countries to share insights on the international economy and finance.
