Pole vaulter Armand Duplantis clears 6.30 meters to set world record • FRANCE 24 English

Under the lights at the Tokyo World Championships, Swedish pole Valter Mondo Duplantis races down the track and pushes off. He flies over the bar, teetering 6.30 m in the air, setting his 14th world record. I mean, I think for sure it’s way more special. It’s night and day. I don’t think it’s really even comparable to break a world record in a championship meet and then not in it. It’s like yeah it’s it’s not really comparable I would say. So this is like very much extra special for for me and everybody I would say and of course it’s going to make the biggest splash. During the final his competition was left gazing up in awe. Silver medalist Emanuel Corales managed to clear six meters, but Duplantis secured the gold with room to spare. He then decided to try for the record. Duplantis has dominated the sport since he set his first world record in 2020. Over the past 5 years, he has continued to push the limits of pole vaultting, raising the bar by 1 cm each time. Well done, Tim.

Armand “Mondo” Duplantis traded handshakes and hugs with the pole vaulters he’d just beaten to capture his third world championship.
