Former UVF bank robber and right-wing fanatic who calls himself ‘Freedom Dad’ goes on racist rampage abusing passengers and ship’s staff

A former UVF bank robber and right-wing fanatic narrowly missed being put back behind bars this week after going berserk on an Irish Sea ferry.

Mark Sinclair – who calls himself ‘Freedom Dad’ on his YouTube channel – livestreamed himself as he harassed a Chinese passenger and shouted at the ship’s staff.

Sinclair – who has been branded the ‘Pound Shop Tommy Robinson’ – is well-known for playing a leading role in the controversial vigilante and anti-migrant patrols around Belfast.

But three months ago he was exposed by the Sunday World as a former UVF bank robber, jailed for 17 years in Scotland. At his trial, he claimed he had been hired by MI5 to spy on loyalist paramilitaries.

On Thursday on the Belfast-Liverpool ferry, a drunken Sinclair filmed himself shouting at Stena Line staff and demanding to know if they supported the shocking murder of US conservative campaigner Charlie Kirk, shot dead on a student campus the day before.

“You’re all left wing. Do you support the murder of Charlie Kirk?” Sinclair yelled, as the Stena Line crew pleaded with him to calm down and stop filming other passengers.

“I’m in a public place. I can film whoever I like. I’m Freedom Dad,” he told them.

As the Stena Line ferry neared the Liverpool terminal, Sinclair became aggressive after bar staff refused to serve him any more wine and aggressively challenged the ship’s crew: “You are all getting at me because you are all left wing and you know I’m right wing.”

A female member of staff again pleaded with Sinclair to sit down and refrain from filming other passengers.

“Take a seat and wait until the police arrive. You appear as though you’ve been drinking,” she said politely.

Sinclair admitted he had been drinking wine during the sea crossing and he demanded to know why the bar staff had confiscated it.

But a male steward told him firmly he was “a narcissist and a bully who had harassed a Chinese passenger”.

A spokesperson for Stena Line said the incident, which happened as the Belfast ferry docked at Birkenhead around tea-time on Thursday, was still under investigation.

And when asked to comment on Sinclair’s behaviour on board, a Stena Line representative said: “Anyone behaving in a rude, rowdy, aggressive or socially unacceptable manner will be refused the right to travel.”

The Stena Line statement continued: “We are committed to fostering a safe, respectful and inclusive working environment for all our employees.

“And we want to ensure all customers have a positive experience when travelling and we expect our customers to adhere to our code of conduct.”

And the statement concluded: “Over-exuberance can often offend others.”

We can reveal that Sinclair was travelling by ferry to Liverpool and then on to London to take part in Tommy Robinson-organised ‘Unite the Kingdom’ march, which attracted 110,000 people, including former loyalist terror chief Johnny ‘Mad Dog’ Adair.

On Friday evening, Robinson commented on social media on the support he is receiving from this side of the Irish Sea.

“Loyalist and republicans, who used to be at war with each other, are travelling to this march together,” he claimed.

He added: “I’m looking forward to seeing all their flags – loyalist and republican – flying together.”

After clashing with the Stena staff, Sinclair found a quiet corner of the ship to make a drunken plea to fans not to unfollow him.

He said: “Please keep following Freedom Dad. I know its tough, I know it’s hard. I know everyone calls you racist and far right. I get that. I know how hard it is.

“Please believe me. You’re not putting your face online, but you’re there commenting and you’re there sharing. But you’re not there putting your head above the parapet, like we are.

“We don’t have any money. We rely on you guys to support us, through comments, likes and shares,” he said.

And then Sinclair diverted into a revelation about his own loyalist background and his previous life as a UVF armed robber.

He said: “I’m just an orphan. I’m just a bank robber. But they don’t know what we’ve went through. But if you want to know the truth, if you want to find out what’s going on, you follow Freedom Dad.

“Freedom Dad is always on the move. And Freedom Dad will always bring you the truth about what’s going on in our world in Northern Ireland.

“But our world isn’t only Northern Ireland. It’s England, Scotland and Wales, because we’re part of the Union. And our world also becomes part of the Republic of Ireland, because we have no borders between the Irish and us.

“This is bigger than Freedom Dad and its bigger than you. I don’t know what to do. I’m just winging it right now.

“I’m trying my best to do my best. But I can’t do it without you guys and I don’t need money from you.

“I don’t need anything. All I need is your love, your shares and your likes.

“I’m on a boat right now going to England. God knows where I’ll end up. But I will be at the Tommy Robinson demo on Saturday 13th, representing my community, the unionist, loyalist community and the Catholic community.”

And he also warned the DUP of the consequences it would face if it didn’t “buck up its ideas”.

Sinclair removed the video from the internet several hours later. “I’ve been advised to take it down,” Sinclair told his followers.
