The Tories have decimated children’s futures. Now, they want more nursery cuts

  1. I wonder how many of these tossers complain that millennials can’t breed enough and then turn around and do this.

  2. Jesus christ. How far have journalistic standards fallen that this crap is being printed, even in the comments section. Anything to sell a paper. People can’t even pretend to be slightly objective.

  3. Do not worry to much the Tories are going to decimate the old people future to in fact the way old Truss is going I think we might have less future than we think.

  4. Excellent article, plenty of facts and very well written. A rotten future isn’t just reserved for 20+ year olds in the UK. Nursery and care/teaching for young kids is about to go downhill too

  5. This is what pisses me off. All the damage since 2010 and every time they make more cuts people forget the same so-called efficiency exercises have happened repeatedly across multiple platforms. It accumulates.

And these are cuts – this is a cut that will lead to bigger nursery class sizes, less attention on each child. Less chance to intervene for learning or social difficulties when they’re learning, less staff to react to an emergency or staff shortage, probably many more I’m not aware of. There is a reason the current system exists in it’s current state. The ratio is already calculated. Going to need to see an argument for better outcomes with less staff which I doubt. This is simply to bring down costs for “working people”… So they’re taking away the quality of the childcare in return for “you now work more hours away from your kids for the same bad wage in our ideologically driven economy”. Why can’t they invest and improve outcomes?

  6. Free nursery cover has also caused many nurseries to close as they cannot pay the staff needed to care for those only using the free hours. As someone who went to nursery full time as a kid, nursery nurses are massively unappreciated and they do a marvellous job. The woman who ran the one my sister and I went to was like family to us and I doubt I would be the same person I am without her and the staff there.

  7. Spoiler: nurseries and childminders will keep their prices the same and either take on more kids for £££ with worse care, or stay as they are. No one will be paying less for childcare.
